A new study on echinacea and colds proves the herb can reduce the number of colds and their duration by about 25 per cent.
The study, which is said to be the largest ever on the herb and how it affects human health, shows it not only lowers the risk of getting sick, but it also reduces the amount of over the counter symptom relief drugs needed to get through a cold.
However, those studied took large amounts of echinacea – three daily doses for four months.
In the past, several studies have suggested that the herb could soothe symptoms and cut colds short, but there was only limited evidence it could prevent people from coming down with illnesses.
