Public hearings scheduled for bag ban

TORONTO, Ont. – The public will be given an opportunity to review the contentious plastic shopping bag ban.

In June, city council voted 24-20 for the ban and voted on Wednesday not to revisit the decision.

However, among the concerns levelled against the ban was that the public and the retail industry were not consulted.

The public is invited to make deputations at the city’s public works and infrastructure committee meeting on Nov. 14. City staff will also consult with the retail industry.

The findings of the consultation and public deputations will be put before city council on Nov. 27 and 28, when the draft bylaw will be considered.
