Power restored after two-alarm fire

TORONTO, Ont. – A two-alarm blaze in the basement of the historic Imperial Old Building knocked out power for at least 9,000 residents on Wednesday.

The fire in the electrial transfer room broke out just before noon and the building was evacuated shortly after.

Fire crews said accessing the fire was a challenge because of holes in the basement floor as a result of construction.

After the fire was knocked down, power shut down in the Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue West area. It was restored shortly after 3:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is not known.
