Special weather statement warns of heavy rain for most of Southern Ontario

TORONTO, Ont. – It’s not just raining in Toronto, it’s pouring, and it’s expected to last for most of the day Saturday.

For that reason Environment Canada has issued a special-weather statement warning of heavy rain in Southern, Central and Eastern Ontario.

Among the areas under the statement, the entire GTA and as far south as Windsor. The Niagara region is also included, and, to the north, Barrie and Muskoka are both included.

The statement also includes Kingston and Ottawa to the east.

680News meteorologist Harold Hosein says you’ll likely need the umbrella all day.

“By the time it’s all said and done, most areas will have between 30-and-50 mm of rain, the higher marks where we have thunderstorms,” Hosein said. “We’ll see an improving trend this evening.”

With all of that rain, residents are being warned to be careful around the water as rivers and streams will run faster and higher than normal.

Credit Valley Conseveration is warning about an expected increase in water levels, saying some localized flooding in low-lying areas may be possible.
