Ontario at bottom of list in every major social indicator: Report

A new report from the Ontario Common Front has nothing good to say about the province, putting Ontario in last place in Canada in every major social indicator.

The Common Front – made up of the Ontario Federation of Labour and over 90 labour and community organizations – blames the Liberals’ poor government policy and austerity budgeting as factors in driving Ontario’s record downward.

“Ontario has the largest increase in income inequality, the second highest increase in poverty, the poorest funding for public services, the lowest funding for hospitals, the worst access for affordable housing, and the highest tuition fees and student debts,” said Sid Ryan, President of the Ontario Federation of Labour.

Ontario is at the bottom of the pack in areas like funding and access to most public programs and services, including everything from health care to education, and justice to disability benefits.

Ryan said the report did not surprise him at all.
