One dead, one seriously injured in two Peel Region crashes

A pedestrian is dead and a motorcyclist has life-threatening injuries following two separate crashes in Peel Region, Wednesday.

Just after 1 p.m., an elderly woman was using a walker to help her cross the intersection of Burnamthorpe and Wolfedale in Mississauga and was struck by a tractor trailer. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peel Police tell 680News the driver of the transport truck will face charges of careless driving. He is from Quebec.

Investigators continue to determine the circumstances of the accident, but have received help from several witnesses. Extra police were on hand to help those traumatized by the scene, which one officer described as “particularly gruesome”.

The intersection was closed for several hours while police investigated.

Earlier Wednesday, a motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital following a crash in Brampton.

CityNews reported the 20-year-old male suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of a collision with another vehicle at Bovaird and Chinguacousy. He was airlifted to hospital in Toronto.
