TORONTO, Ont. – Three identical baby boys are now breathing on their own, after being delivered at a Toronto hospital last week.
Nelie Passarelli gave birth to Matteo, Lucas and Nicholas at Mount Sinai Hospital last Tuesday, one month ahead of their due date.
They’re now under observation in incubators at Brampton Civic Hospital.
“Words can’t describe how we feel,” said father Sandro Passarelli. “It’s amazing. It’s amazing, and it’s a blessing.”
First to arrive, at 11:45 a.m. last Tuesday, was Matteo. Two minutes, later Nicholas and Lukas were born at the same time. Each brother weighs about three pounds.
It seems having twins or triplets runs in the family, as mother Nelie has a twin brother, and Sandro’s grandfather has a twin sibling as well.
“I can’t wait to bring ’em home and just bond with them and just get to know them better and get to know who’s who because it’s going to be hard to figure out!” Nelie said.
Doctors say the boys are gaining weight and should be released from hospital in about a month.
Some statistics cite the odds of having identical triplets as one in a million.
