Canadian Business magazine reveals our top choices for favourite Canadian brand

In its third annual survey, Canadian Business magazine examined the top brands that Canadians love and trust.

When it comes to our homegrown brands, the survey found Canadians generally feel patriotic and sentimental about them.

Perhaps surprisingly, the survey found we trusted Canadian companies less than we trusted many massive global companies.

Some of the big movers in the list included CIBC, which saw a large improvement, while former Canadian darling Research in Motion dropped off the list.

So who came out on top? The number one Canadian company, as ranked by Canadians, was Jean Coutu Group. The Quebec-based pharmacy operates nearly 360 locations across Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.

Second was Tim Hortons, with Westjet coming in third and Shoppers Drug Mart and Bombardier rounding out the top five.

The top 5 Canadian Companies (as ranked by Canadians):

1.      Jean Coutu Group (Pharmacy)
2.      Tim Hortons (Coffee/Food)
3.      Westjet (Airline)
4.      Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix (Pharmacy)
5.      Bombardier (Aerospace/Transportation)

The top 5 world companies (as ranked by Canadians):

2.      Kellogg (Food/Household products)
3.      Colgate-Palmolive (Household products)
4.      The Walt Disney Co. (Media conglomerate)

The survey involved more than 3,800 consumers around Canada, rating the brands on seven criteria including innovation, financial performance and more.
