Man, 19, shot in Scarborough expected to survive

A 19-year-old man has been shot near the Lawrence Avenue East Scarborough RT station.

The Caucasian man was holding onto the fence on the east side of the station and was screaming that he had been shot, police tell CityNews. He was shot once in the abdomen and is expected to survive.

Police believe the 19-year-old was shot just south of the station and then staggered to the fence between the GO Train tracks and the SRT line, at track level.

Const. Tony Vella told CityNews the victim and suspect had a brief confrontation before a shot was fired.

Jay, who lives in an apartment building overlooking the scene, told 680News he heard the gunfire but did not realize at first just what he had heard.

“Loud firecrackers, that’s what I thought it was until I saw all the cops and then I kinda figured it was a shooting,”  he explained.

Another area resident said he was not pleased to hear about another shooting in Scarborough.

“I think that the people in this community are going crazy. The kids just don’t care anymore. It’s getting to be very unsafe. I don’t know what they’re going to do about it,” he said.

GO Transit has been temporarily halted in the area.

The police are still on the lookout for the shooter.

The suspect has been described as white, over 6-feet tall, and was wearing a black baseball hat.

Police say they are looking at security video and speaking to witnesses.

No firearm has been recovered.
