Hundreds biking from Toronto to Montreal to raise money for AIDS foundation

TORONTO, Ont. – It’s a case of pedaling for a good cause, as hundreds of people are biking from Toronto to Montreal to raise money for the Toronto “People With AIDS Foundation.”

The riders are taking part in the 14th annual “Friends For Life Bike Rally,” presented by Scotiabank.

The ride covers 600 kilometres, with cyclists leaving Queen’s Park around 9:00 a.m. Sunday.

Among them are people living with AIDS, and others who have been affected by its touch.

“We do have people living with HIV and AIDS riding, we also have people impacted by HIV riding, so it really adds a personal touch, and it builds the community,” said Scotiabank’s Cory Garlough.

“It’s called Friends For Life for a reason,” he added.

The ride raises funds for the People With Aids Foundation, which provides services like food programs, treatment resources and financial assistance.

“The Toronto People With Aids Foundation is celebrating its 25th year in existence, in terms of serving the community of men, women and children living with HIV and AIDS,” Garlough said. “In terms of support, it’s just as critical as when we just started.”

The ride has contributed more than $10 million supporting HIV/AIDS work and research in the past 13 years.
