Charges laid against Toronto couple following string of cell phone robberies

A Toronto couple faces charges in connection with a series of cell phone robberies.

Police said the thefts took place between June 21 and July 8 in the Rexdale area.

Investigators said in all incidents, a silver car occupied by a man and woman would pull up beside the victim, who would be on foot.

The woman would attempt or succeed in getting the victim’s cell phone, using violence in some cases, and then the man would drive away.

Jermaine Gardiner, 29, and Jakeela Tynes, 20, are facing robbery related offences, while Gardiner is also charged with failing to comply with probation.

Police believe there are more victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
