Hot, muggy & dry weather to continue into next week

TORONTO, Ont. – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of southern Ontario, including the GTA, warning of hot, muggy and dry conditions to continue into next week.

The statement also stretches for areas in eastern Ontario.

  • Dunnville – Caledonia – Haldimand
  • Oxford – Brant
  • Huron – Perth
  • Waterloo – Wellington
  • Dufferin – Innisfil
  • Grey – Bruce
  • Belleville – Quinte – Northumberland
  • Kingston – Prince Edward
  • Peterborough – Kawartha Lakes
  • Stirling – Tweed – South Frontenac
  • Bancroft – Bon Echo Park
  • Brockville – Leeds and Grenville
  • City of Ottawa
  • Gatineau
  • Prescott and Russell

Environment Canada said the temperature reached the low 30s in most areas on Thursday, with similar readings expected on Friday.

In Toronto, the forecast on Friday calls for a high of 33 C with a humidex near 37.

Humidity levels are forecasted to build through to Sunday, and on Monday, humidex values may reach 40 in some areas.

Environment Canada said the heat and humidity may “peak towards the middle of next week with temperatures well in the 30s and humidex readings in the mid-40s before somewhat cooler and less humid air arrives.”

There will also very little rain relief from the very dry conditions affecting much of southern Ontario over the next several days.

According to Environment Canada, the greatest chance of any significant rain may come around the middle of next week.
