Do you feel lucky or unlucky? It’s Friday the 13th

Are you avoiding ladders and black cats? Or are you feeling lucky?

It’s Friday the 13th — the third one this year. The other ones were on Jan. 13 and April 13.

Meanwhile, up to 60,000 bikers have gathered in Port Dover, Ont., Friday, for the traditional Friday the 13th motorcycle ride. An estimated 250,000 people are expected to be in attendance.

On a regular day, the population for this Lake Erie town is around 3,500.

Madeline Butler, who works at the local landmark, the Erie Beach Hotel, said the area is jammed.

“People line up their bikes all the way up to Main Street. There’s beer gardens everywhere,” Butler said.

It’s a big money-maker for Port Dover. According to Norfolk County Economic Development and Tourism, the event can bring in around $2-million in one day, especially in the summer.

But while motorcycle fans are feeling lucky, others may not be feeling that way.

A fear of Friday the 13th is referred to as “friggatriskaidekaphobia,” while others have a fear of the number 13, which is called “triskaidekaphobia.”
