WestJet selected as one of top 10 airlines in the world

Calgary-based WestJet has been selected as one of the top 10 airlines in the world, according to a new report by Aviation Week.

The airline is the only Canadian company to make the list, and only one of two North American airlines to make the cut, landing at number 10.

The study, which ranks air carriers by looking at revenues and other financial and operational data, puts Air Asia and Air Arabia in spots one and two.

WestJet receives this honour in a year that has already been extremely successful for the airline. In May, the company announced record first-quarter earnings, and it plans to launch a low-cost regional airline in 2013.

The world’s top 10 airlines, according to Aviation Week:
1. Air Asia
2. Air Arabia
3. Ryanair
4. Hainan Airlines
5. Allegiant Air
6. TransAsia Airways
7. Vueling Airlines
8. Copa Airlines
9. Singapore Airlines
10. WestJet Airlines
