OTTAWA, Ont. – Health Canada is planning a study of possible links between wind turbine noise and its effect on health.
Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq said the research was prompted by concerns from people living near wind farms about possible health issues relating to the low frequency noise from the turbines.
The study’s initial focus is on residents in 2,000 homes selected from eight to 12 wind turbine installations across Canada.
Researchers will be assessing residents’ blood pressure and other physical measurements, conduct in-person interviews, and measure noise levels both inside and outside the dwellings.
The proposed project is posted on Health Canada’s web site for a 30-day public comment period. The Committee designing the study will review feedback.
Researchers hope to publish the results of the study in 2014.
