Woman found murdered in St. Catharines home after call for residential fire

Niagara Regional Police are investigating what they are now calling a murder in St. Catharines.
Emergency crews initially responded to a residential fire on East Hampton Road Saturday, finding a woman dead in the basement apartment.
Detectives now say they believe the woman was murdered prior to the fire.
The family has been notified but police are not releasing the name pending a confirmation of identification.
Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact Niagara Police or Crime Stoppers.
