Ontario Medical Association wants Superior Court to reverse Liberal fee cuts

TORONTO, Ont. – The province’s plan to freeze doctor’s salaries while at the same time slashing hundreds of OHIP fees is about to land the McGuinty government in court.

The Ontario Medical Association says the actions of the Liberal government will affect patients, because it is going to be harder to attract doctors to Ontario.

Dr. Doug Weir, president of the OMA, says doctors have no intention of withdrawing services and just want to get back to the bargaining table.

“The government has left us no choice but to ask the courts to intervene. We are applying to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice for a review of the government’s negotiation tactics and unilateral imposition of fee cuts.”

The OMA wants the court to reverse $340-million of those fee cuts.
