Defence minister apologizes for image of Russell Williams in government booklet

Defence Minister Peter MacKay is apologizing because of an image of convicted murderer and rapist Russell Williams appearing in a Defence department professional-development booklet.

The photo was supposedly taken in February 2010, less than a month before Williams was arrested.

MacKay says he is now making sure all copies of the booklet, which were part of the 2012 CF Canadian Defence Academy publication, are destroyed.

Approximately 4,000 copies of the booklet had been published at a cost of $5,000, and it’s estimated the revised version will cost around the same.

Williams, who is serving two life terms after pleading guilty to 88 charges related to the rape and murder of several women, was once a decorated commander with the Canadian Forces.
