Eating chicken off a bowl while steering car with knees costs Ottawa driver $500

OTTAWA – Don’t eat when you drive — at least not from a china bowl.

A 58-year-old Ottawa man is facing a $490 fine after a provincial police officer spotted a driver eating behind the wheel.

Police say the driver had a white china bowl on his lap and was eating rotisserie chicken as he drove with his knees and grabbed the steering wheel occasionally.

OPP say an unmarked police vehicle was passed by a car Tuesday evening on Highway 417.

Police say the car was observed speeding, weaving outside of its lane, following too closely and changing lanes without signalling.

Michael Gibson was charged with careless driving.
