Vegetarians may be genetically disposed to avoid meat.
Researchers at Duke University Medical Center have discovered that some people have two copies of a gene linked to the sense of smell.
This could make them especially sensitive to the scent of some types of meat and make them predisposed to prefer less offensive smelling foods, like vegetables.
The study is in the online journal “The Public Library of Science One.”
