TTC top chief says he won’t back workers who threaten to ruin TTC reputation

TORONTO, Ont. – The TTC’s top chief said he won’t back workers who threaten to “wreck” the reputation of the transit system by misbehaving on the job.

In a terse letter to all staff, chief executive officer Andy Byford said he realizes that it’s a minority of workers who act badly on the job and he expects them to face the consequences of their actions. Read full statement here

Byford said their actions lead to even more scrutiny and potential for assaults on staff.

TTC spokesman Brad Ross told 680News the message is simple.

“Those who choose to put their own safety and the safety of our customers as well as risk will not be supported by the TTC,” Ross explained. “There will be consequences for their actions, disciplinary action will be taken.”

In the past week, there have been published reports of transit drivers texting, reading the newspaper and parking illegally to get a snack.

Since taking over the job from the fired Gary Webster, Byford has vowed to improve the TTC’s reputation with riders.
