“Leviathan” roller coaster to debut at Canada’s Wonderland this summer

TORONTO, Ont. – If you feel the need for speed, you will want season passes to Canada’s Wonderland this year to test out their newest roller coaster.

The Leviathan is 93 metres high and hits top speeds of almost 150 kilometres an hour.

This is the 16th roller coaster at Canada’s Wonderland, which park officials said makes it one of the top three “coaster” destinations in the world.

Wonderland spokesperson Dineen Beaven warns, the Leviathan is “not for the meek.”

“What this coaster is all about is extreme speed,” Beaven told CityNews. “This is a great ride for thrill seekers who are really looking for extreme thrills.”

Canada’s Wonderland will be showing off the roller coaster, Friday, with only the winners of an auction benefiting the Hospital for Sick Children getting to ride it. The rest of us have to wait until the park opens May 6.

  • Steepest Drop: 80 degrees
  • Top speed: 148 km/h
  • Total length: 1,672 metres
  • Scariest turn: hammerhead turn at 115 degrees that crosses above the park’s front gate
  • Ride time: 3m 28s
  • Height requirement: 58 inches tall

Wonderland opens to the public on Sunday, May 6 for weekends only, and weekdays beginning May 17.
