Compliments Extra Strength Acetaminophen Gelcaps recalled over packaging error

Vita Health Products is recalling some of their Compliments-brand over-the-counter pain medication.

The packaging makes it look like the drug is in a child-resistant package, but the company says the product is actually not child-resistant.

This lack of a locking mechanism could lead to young children ingesting the drug, which could lead to serious health risks including liver damage and failure.

The recall involved five lot numbers of Compliments Extra Strength Acetaminophen Gelcaps 500 mg, sold in bottles of 120.

Lot numbers:

1B01829H9
1B01929H9
1E1742EGG
1I10102GMB
1K1672KME

The products have been distributed to Sobeys and IGA retail locations, but the company adds they may have been sold elsewhere as well.

Health Canada is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
