Researchers find mortality risks spike for those sitting more than 11-hours a day

A new study suggests those who sit for 11 or more hours a day are 40 per cent more likely to die over the next three years — regardless of how physically active they are.

Researchers in Australia looked at self-reported data from more than 200,000 people aged 45 and older.

They found that mortality risks spike after 11 hours of total daily sitting.

The mortality risks for those sitting between 8 and 11 hours are 15 per cent higher than those who sit fewer than 4 hours a day.

The study is published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
