Health Canada to reveal more graphic images on cigarette packs

Health Canada hopes bigger, more graphic images on cigarette packages will convince smokers to butt out.

Canadian Cancer Society spokesman Rob Cunningham said this is good news for everyone, as a picture can tell a thousand words, and even stopping one person from smoking is a job well done.

“Pictures of mouth cancer or a person who is suffering from lung cancer, a debilitating disease – these warnings do have an impact to reduce smoking, to increase awareness of the health effect, and we’re delighted,” he told 680News.

The new images will cover 75 per cent of the package, as opposed to the previous 50. Retailers have until June 19 to ensure all the packs have the new warnings on them.
