Cardinal Collins looks ahead to new duties at Vatican after brief relaxation

ROME – After a busy week filled with formal ceremonies, celebrations and a number of media interviews, the newly-appointed Cardinal Thomas Collins plans to spend Tuesday relaxing.

Collins and 21 others were elevated to cardinal at the Vatican over the weekend.

But after the brief relaxation, he’s looking ahead to more celebrations at home and his new duties.

They include overseeing St. Patrick’s Parish in Rome and at least two yet-to-be-named ministries at the Vatican.

For Cardinal Collins it means things will change in the Archdiocese of Toronto — the three auxiliary bishops, who are like regional managers, will take on a greater roll.

The Archdiocese is also looking to place a fourth bishop to look after Ontario’s north region.
