Brampton man, 19, arrested after allegedly setting fire to home while babysitting

TORONTO, Ont. – A 19-year-old Brampton man wanted by police for mischief endangering life has been arrested in Toronto.

Peel police constable Fiona Thivierge told 680News Joshua Raphael was located last night.

“The accused was located in a stairwell in an apartment complex on Weston Road in Toronto, by the Toronto Police Service,” Thivierge said.

Raphael is accused of setting a fire inside a Brampton home while babysitting his young niece and nephew, and then leaving them inside.

Luckily no one was hurt in the incident as the nine-year-old niece managed to douse the fire, which police say was started with some type of accelerant.

There was little damage to the home, and neighbours called 911 shortly after a smoke alarm went off.

Raphael is due in court Tuesday.
