TORONTO, Ont. – Getting on the GO Train or Go Bus Saturday? You might need to pack some extra change, as GO Transit fares have increased for the first time in two years.
The fare increase will vary between 30 to 40 cents depending on the route and length of the trip.
In January Metrolinx approved an increase using a “fare by distance” approach.
As a result, GO riders who travel a greater distance will have to pay 30 cents more for rides between $4.20 and $5.50, an additional 35 cents for rides between $5.51 and $7.00, and 40 cents more for anything over $7.00
GO said this will generate around $19.5 million per year, which they hope will manage costs as the agency deals with unprecedented ridership growth.
There are also changes in the discount structure on monthly passes, which see adults saving 15 per cent of the cost of 40 single rides, while students will get a 30 per cent break.
