Valentine’s Day weekend: bring back the art of cocktails

This weekend is going to be a big one for couples who want to beat the rush and celebrate Valentine’s Day.

And perhaps nothing says “you’re special” more than going to the trouble to get the ingredients, the glass and mixing up your sweetheart’s favourite cocktail — and it’s as easy as gathering a few ingredients.

Be it whiskey, rye, vodka or gin — a cocktail can be a blend of just about anything, but there are the classics like a Manhattan or a Rusty Nail.

The LCBO’s Chris Layton told 680News cocktails are part of what he calls, the “slow drink movement.”

“Taking some time, slow down, put the smartphones away, and instead, enjoy some really good conversations with friends over some interesting drinks,” Layton said.

He also said a cocktail party or a cocktail hour is just the thing to get rid of the winter blues.

“And matching it up with an appropriate food, so that makes it a lot of fun — a full entertaining experience,” Layton said.
