City says more funding needed to fight bed bugs

The bed bug fight in Toronto is running short of funding and the city is looking to the province to step in with some extra funding.

The one-time funding from the Ontario government of around $1.2-million runs out March 31.

Toronto’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David McKeown, says even with stepped up education, the situation is not letting up.

McKeown says that the funding could end before current work on resolving bed bug infestations has been completed.

A total of 978 infestations were reported across the city in 2011.
