More funding for people with developmental disabilities

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – People living with developmental disabilities in BC are getting an extra $40-million from the province. That brings the annual budget to $750-million.

Faith Bodnar with the BC Association for Community Living says it’s not enough, but it’s a start.

“Are we satisfied with 40-million? No. Are we appreciative of it? Yes. But we think we’ve identified $35-million a year just to keep up with the new people coming into service.”

The money will go to the 13,000 people in BC with developmental disabilities.

Critics have slammed the province for underfunding programs and closing group homes over the last year and a half.
