Western Canada leads country in economic growth

Western Canada is projected to lead the country in growth and prosperity over the next couple of years, according to the Conference Board of Canada.

Saskatoon, Calgary, and Edmonton are at the top of the fresh metropolitan outlook, reports the Board, who attributes the boom to resource strength and new migrants.

Edmonton created nearly 40,000 new jobs in 2011 alone.

Central Canadian cities, meanwhile, are not expected to do as well, with the manufacturing industry continuing to struggle.

Toronto is in a tie with Regina for fifth place in the outlook.
