Quiet and relaxing holiday planned for Canadian political leaders

OTTAWA, Ont. – Parliament Hill is pretty quiet these days, as MPs head home to celebrate the holidays with their friends and loved ones.

So have you ever wondered what the Prime Minister does over the Christmas break? According to 680News Parliament Hill reporter Cormac MacSweeney, it will be a quiet break from the bantering.

Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen, along with their two kids Ben and Rachel, will spend Christmas at their family home in Calgary.

Meanwhile, on New Years the family will travel to Harrington Lake, which is the official country home of the Prime Minister.

“During the holidays it’s just a quiet time for the Harpers with loved ones,” MacSweeney said.

Nicole Turmel, interim leader of the NDP, will be spending Christmas with her family at her cottage in Quebec.

Bob Rae, interim leader of the Liberals, will also be spending Christmas with his family. The Rae family celebrates both Christmas and Hanukkah, so they’ll likely be enjoying plenty of turkey and latkes.
