Hockey greats pack Ricoh Coliseum for Scotia Hope Hockey Classic

TORONTO, Ont. – Ricoh Coliseum was packed with hockey greats Sunday afternoon, as some of the greatest players in history hit the ice for a good cause.

The annual Scotia Hope Hockey Classic features Scotiabank executives and the former NHL players taking on kids from the Toronto Kiwanis Club, Central Neighbourhood House and St. Christopher’s House.

Duncan Hannan, senior VP of marketing for Scotia Bank, told 680News the game is a big deal for everyone involved.

“It’s a unique opportunity for them (kids) to come together with NHL greats in a game of hockey, so it really gives them a tremendously unique experience and at the same time helps raise money toward United Way’s member agencies,” Hannan said.

Suiting up for the United Way fundraiser are former Leafs Gary Roberts, Wendel Clark and Curtis Joseph, among others.

The Hockey Classic is one part of the 2011 Scotia Hope fundraising campaign, which hopes to raise $5.7 million this year in support of the United Way.
