Court appearance Monday for man facing charges in fatal Mississauga crash

A 20-year-old man is expected to make a court appearance Monday in connection with a two-vehicle crash that took the life of a father in Mississauga over the weekend.

The man is facing numerous charges including impaired driving, excessive blood alcohol level and criminal negligence causing death.

The two-vehicle collision, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning, left a father dead and his two-year-old child in serious but stable condition.

Three other people, not including the deceased man or child, suffered minor injuries in the crash, which involved two men, two women and a child.

“Right now the child is at Sick Kids Hospital and is in stable condition,” said police constable Marlon Colthrust.

The force of the crash left one of the vehicles flipped and the other with significant damage.

“The victims were just exiting the highway when they were involved in the violent crash, which ejected the driver and two-year-old child from the vehicle,” Colthrust said. “The driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced (dead) at the scene.”

Pedro Zucchet, a cameraman for CityNews, was on the scene and called the wreckage unbelievable.

“From the point of impact, it (one of the cars) either rolled or slid down this hill, and it was maybe 300 feet from the initial impact,” Zucchet said.

Cawthra Road was closed for several hours at the QEW as police investigated the crash.

Darren Millet, 20, has been charged with:

  • Impaired operation of motor vehicle causing death
  • 3x criminal negligence causing death
  • Excessive blood alcohol level
  • 3x impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
