The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is advising the public not to consume certain Bos brand Herring fillets, warning they may be contaminated with a dangerous bacteria.
Toxins produced by the bacteria, clostridium botulinum, may cause the potentially life-threatening condition botulism.
The affected product, Bos brand “Naturally Smoked Herring Fillets – Natural,” was sold in various weights without best before dates on the packaging.
The product was sold by Ramaker’s Imports of St. Catharines from September to December 7.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with the product, which was voluntarily recalled.
The CFIA will monitor the efficiency of the recall.
