54-year-old mother charged with abduction, case dates back nearly 20-years

TORONTO – Police have made an arrest in a child abduction case that began in Toronto, 18 years ago.

54 year old Patricia O’Byrne was arrested on Thursday in Victoria, and charged with abducting her own daughter in 1993.

Sigourney Chisholm was just 20-months old at the time.

O’Byrne, who lived in Victoria under a false name, is due to appear in a Toronto court on Monday.

The alleged abduction happened in Toronto during a heated custody battle with Joe Chisholm, Sigourney’s father.

Chisholm said it’s up to his daughter, who is now 20-years-old, to decide if she wants to reunite with him.
