Community works to repair damaged Malvern war memorial

An act of vandalism has led to a huge outpouring of community support and money for a war memorial outside an east-end Toronto high school.

Volunteers have raised a total of $4000, with $2000 going towards repair, and the other $2000 going toward security, lighting and maintenance, as well as beautification of the site.

Work on the statue, which stands in front of Malvern Collegiate in the Gerard and Main Street area, is expected to begin immediately to make it impossible for people to climb up the statue, and to install much better lighting and security cameras.
