Police provide transit riders with safety tips to avoid mobile device theft

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police are taking to transit Monday night to speak with riders about safety concerns over the theft of cell phones and other small handheld electrical devices.

Police say suspects are grabbing the devices out of the hands of riders and fleeing the area.  Police say the suspects ask for the time as a way to lure the victims into taking out their devices.

During, “Project Rope,” which will take place Monday between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., officers will provide riders with safety tips to protect their personal property and enhance their awareness of crime prevention.
