Lady Gaga delivers video message to Toronto school for equality assembly

TORONTO, Ont. – Lady Gaga delivered a personal video message, Friday, to a west-end Toronto school for its equality assembly to fight against homophobia.

In the video played to students at the Etobicoke School of the Arts, the pop superstar praised them for being strong advocates for their lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community.

She told them, quote, “There should be more little monsters like you.”

It isn’t everyday that you can silence a room of teens, but that’s exactly what eventually happened.

“There was quiet, and they listened to her,” school principal Rob MacKinnon told 680News.

This was all made possible after student council president Jacques St. Pierre e-mailed Lady Gaga, asking her to speak out against bullying and homophobia.

“No one should be bullied; no one deserves that kind of treatment,” St. Pierre told 680News.

“I am a huge fan of hers, so I was crying, I was jumping up and down, I was all over the place,” he said, speaking to how he felt when he saw the video.

MacKinnon told 680News that’s pretty much the reaction students had as well.

“Great attention for a very worthwhile subject, so if Lady Gaga is the one to bring attention to it, then go Gaga,” he said.

MacKinnon said they kept the video a secret from the rest of the students until Friday’s event, and thinks students got the message.

“It was a great message from her, underlying was don’t bully and be kind to each other,” he said.
