Canadian retailers offering Black Friday-type deals

Black Friday is the craziest shopping day that follows American Thanksgiving, and Canadian retailers are paying attention.

Retailers are advertising major markdowns as they try to keep Canadians consumers’ cash on this side of the border.

But, how far would you go for a deal on Black Friday?

Derek Szeto with RedFlagDeals.com said try your local Sears store.

He said electronics and clothing are among the growing number of deals retailers are offering on Black Friday to keep shoppers in Canada.

“If you’re in the market for a plasma TV, there’s a Samsung 51-inch that’s selling for $479.99,” Szeto said.

He said this year is bigger than ever.

“This year, there’s a lot more retailers that are calling their sales actually ‘Black Friday’ sales, so they’ve even using the name,” Szeto added.

But unlike the United States, Black Friday hasn’t become a really big factor in holiday shopping in Canada yet.

In Canada, Dec. 23 is the biggest shopping day of the year.
