York region police officer charged with sexual assault, weapons offences

TORONTO – A York region police officer has been charged with sexual assault and weapons offences.

Const. Brent Rouillard, 38, was arrested by Toronto police on Saturday and has been suspended with pay until the latter is resolved.

He is charged with two counts of sexual assault, careless storage of a restricted weapon and careless storage of ammunition.

Rouillard has been on the York region police force since December 2006. He was assigned to uniform patrol before transferring to the special services unit in January.

York region police chief Eric Jolliffe says it’s “extremely disappointing” that one of his officers faces criminal charges. He says it’s important now to let the justice system do its work.
