Police ID Canadians killed in Hawaii crash; 2 Toronto residents among 5 victims

TORONTO – Police in Hawaii have released the identities of two Canadians killed last week in a helicopter crash on Molokai island.

Maui police say Stewart Robertson, 50, and Eva Birgitta Wannersjo, 47, both of Toronto, were among the five people who died in the crash.

The Blue Hawaiian Helicopters flight was on a 45-minute aerial tour of west Maui and Molokai when it slammed into a hillside around midday last Thursday.

The Eurocopter EC-130 was engulfed in flames after crashing some 400 metres from an elementary school. Firefighters recovered four bodies and the fifth was located under the wreckage.

Pennsylvania newlyweds Nicole Bevilacqua-Abel, 28, and Michael Abel, 25, and the 30-year-old pilot, Nathan Cline, were also killed in the crash.

The U.S. National Transportation Board is investigating the cause of the accident and a preliminary report is expected later this month.
