Vancouver Island man charged in child porn probe launched by Toronto police

VICTORIA – A 23-year-old Vancouver Island man is facing child pornography charges as the result of an international child porn investigation launched by the Toronto police last year.

Kevin Myrfield of Courtenay is accused of five counts of possessing child pornography and four counts of making child pornography available.

He was arrested in June when Victoria police and the RCMP searched a home in Courtenay.

He’s among 26 Canadians arrested in the Toronto police investigation called Project Sanctuary, which was aimed at finding people distributing child pornography.

Toronto police announced last year that in addition to the Canadians charged, the investigation has led to the arrests of 32 people in other countries.

Police say Project Sanctuary uncovered a global network of men accused of trading in child porn and who, in some cases, abused children themselves.
