Preliminary hearing begins Monday for man accused of killing Sgt. Russell

The preliminary hearing will begin, Monday, for Richard Kachkar, the man accused of running down and killing Toronto police Sgt. Ryan Russell in January.

Kachkar, 45, is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Sgt. Russell tried to stop a stolen snowplow early on Jan. 12 at Avenue and Davenport roads when his cruiser was struck. He was 35 years old.

Kachkar was tracked down and shot later that morning by police in High Park, but has since made a full recovery.
