Jury finds Conrad Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson’s death

A jury has found Michael Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray, guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Murray was taken into custody without bail and is facing up to four years in jail and could be banned from practicing medicine.

Outside the courthouse fans cheered with excitement, while Jackson’s family watched on in anticipation.

“Dr. Murray looked straight ahead, his eyes were open, his mouth was closed, that expression never changed,” said ABC reporter Aaron Katersky.

Afterward, Jackson’s sister LaToya Jackson thanked everyone involved in the prosecution of Murray.

“Thank you America, thank all the fans, thank the prosecuting teams, you were great, everybody was wonderful, I just want to thank you all,” LaToya said.

Murray is expected to appeal the verdict, but will remain behind bars until he is either granted bail on an appeal or his sentencing date.

“Question will be, whether or not the judge will grant bail on appeal, if his intention is to imprison Dr. Murray, he may order him into custody immediately,” said one legal analyst.

“Even though Dr. Murray is a medical doctor, and even though he has been practising, public safety demands that he be remanded,” the judge said.

Monday was the second day of deliberations in the trial, which was closely followed by media and people all across the world.

The jury deliberated for more than seven hours on Friday, before telling the judge there wasn’t going to be a verdict before the weekend.

Dr. Murray had pleaded not guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter after prosecutors accused him of administering a fatal dose of the powerful anaesthetic propofol to the King of Pop.

Murray is set to be sentenced on Nov. 29.
