Members of Ontario legislature returning to work Nov. 21

The Ontario legislature will resume sitting Nov. 21, following the break for the election campaign.

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty announced the date while on a tour of the new Rotman School of Management which is currently under construction.

The hard hats required on the job site may be a good idea when MPPs return to Queen’s Park, given the Liberals’ minority government situation.

“I know that we share the same top priority… the same one shared by all of our families, all our businesses, all of our institutions here in Ontario, we need to focus on jobs and the economy. I am very much looking forward on getting down to work with my colleagues in the legislature,” McGuinty said.

McGuinty said the economy will be a priority.

“It’s not going to be easy for us to balance our budget,” McGuinty said. “But in order for us to grow stronger as an economy, we’re going to have to find ways to get there and the fall economic statement will begin to inform all of us about the nature of the challenge before us.”

The speaker will be elected on Nov. 21. The speech from the throne will follow on the Nov. 22. It will lay out the government ‘s agenda for the session.
