Sleep troubles may increase your risk of a heart attack

People who have trouble getting a decent night’s sleep may also face a higher risk of heart attack according to a new study.

Norwegian researchers looked at data taken during the 1990’s on more than 53,000 men and women and found that those who reported having trouble falling asleep almost every day had a 45 per cent increased risk of a heart attack, compared to those who had no trouble going to sleep.

Those who had trouble staying asleep also had a 30 per cent higher risk of heart attack.

Experts say more study is needed to confirm the findings and explore the potential mechanisms involved.
