Website aims to centralize civic election information

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There are a lot of people you can vote for in a civic election; a new website aims to boost typically-low voter turnout by making it easier for you to choose who to vote for.

You have to mark an ‘X’ for a mayor, city councillors, school trustees, and park board commissioners. The website is a first in BC and likely a first in Canada, according to civicvote.ca co-founder Gary Manson.

On the site, you’ll find platforms, news reports, videos, and links to social media.

“We’re able to consolidate and centralize information from candidates all across the province,” he explains. “All those running in local elections at the municipal, school district, regional district level.”

Manson says they’ve tried to ‘dummy-down’ the site to make it easy for even the least web-savvy people out there to use. He’s trying to encourage candidates to make better use of new communication mediums.
