Canucks cruise after productive start against Nashville

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks nabbed their first home win of the young season after a 5-1 destruction of the Nashville Predators. Vancouver scored four times in the opening frame, including the first NHL goal for Dale Weise.

Weise’s goal made it 3-1, after he deflected an Alex Edler shot past Pekka Rinne. Chris Higgins made it 4-1, 13 and a half minutes into the first period. Daniel Sedin opened the scoring for the Canucks, while brother Henrik added the other marker in the first.

Rinne did not return for the second period, as he was replaced in the Nashville goal by Anders Lindback.

In his second game back, Ryan Kesler rifled home a one-timer for his first of the season, with the Canucks on a two-man advantage in the third period. Vancouver scored twice on 10 power-play opportunities after starting the campaign 0-for-19 at Rogers Arena.

Roberto Luongo made 25 saves in the Canucks’ goal.

Minnesota visits on Saturday afternoon.
